Designed and manufactured by Albert Jagger as far back as 1953, Antiluce™ Fasteners are a staple product within the company which has seen vast success over the years. More than 15,000 are produced by Albert Jagger every week, and our manufacturing capabilities mean that we can make fasteners in a wide variety of sizes and finishes to suit the requirements of our customers. But what exactly are Antiluce™ Fasteners, and for which applications are they best suited?

So… What are Antiluce™ Fasteners?

These easy-to-use and robust fasteners are one-piece components which can either be bolted or welded on to create an ideal joining between vehicle objects, perfect for securing loads.

They feature captive moveable cotters which are able to slide in and out of a locked position, which dispenses the need for loose cotters and chains. Its ergonomic design means that rattling and vibrations, which can cause unwanted noise that may even loosen the fitting, are prevented.

Additionally, the low number of moving parts present in our Antiluce™ Fasteners means that fastening remains quick and reliable.

Albert Jagger "Backs Britain" by reshoring production from China

Midlands manufacturer of commercial vehicle engineering and industrial hardware is reshoring component production from China.

Bloxwich-based MIM member Albert Jagger Engineering, which has been producing metal components for more than 70 years, has reshored production of almost a quarter of a million fastening components and has, in some cases, reduced costs by up to 50%.

An SME team from the Coventry-based Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) worked with Albert Jagger to transform its factory.

The team of 11 MTC engineers produced a new factory layout, introduced new technology including CNC machines and automation, and re-trained staff using virtual and augmented reality.

As a result of this, the manufacturer was able to produce fastening components previously been imported from China for between 20 and 50% of the cost. On top of this, they have slashed stockholding costs by 50% and created space in the factory for future growth.

Magnus McFarlane, Lead Advisor with the MTC’s transformation team, said: “The management team at Albert Jagger has delivered an amazing transformation – visually, culturally and technologically. Their strategy of re-shoring production is one that a number of UK businesses may be considering, and at Albert Jagger, they have created an agile facility and a resilient supply chain.”

Albert Jagger’s chief executive Garth Cooper added: “Our work with the MTC has been truly transformational. We’ve invested in our factory and in new technologies, we have taken on staff and improved the skills of our existing employees. We are already seeing the benefits of our strategy to re-shore and recently secured 200,000 units of the product originally outsourced to China.”

Albert Jagger supplies products to a range of automotive companies including commercial vehicle manufacturers, agriculture, construction, rail, medical, aerospace, and emergency services.

The MTC Manufacturing Support Services team has worked with more than 500 SMEs, and at any one time has more than 150 live projects.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part of the High-Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.

1887 was an eventful year… The world would be introduced to the mastermind detective, Sherlock Holmes, people would celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria’s reign, and a Manchester artist would be born, Laurence Stephen Lowry.

At a time where milk cost 1 1/2d and bread would set you back 3d, Mr Albert Jagger bought 719 square yards in Centaur Works for £776.6.0d. By the end of 1906, Albert Jagger Limited was making a profit of £644.9.3d.

Lieut. Commander Douglas R Cooper bought Albert Jagger Limited in 1945 at the end of the second World War. The business remains family-owned with the fourth generation involved today.

2021… What a year!

With December marking the end of the financial year, we can officially announce a new company record... Making 2021 the best in Albert Jagger’s history!

Since the beginning of the lockdown, we’ve had to adapt, change, and become more efficient, with a focus on business continuity and customer demand.

Marking a remarkable bounce back from the first COVID lockdown, reshoring products back to the UK has helped to protect us from the global supply chain crisis. With record sales achieved in July alone due to increased demand for British made antiluce fastener, our manufacturing facility has an ever-growing orderbook.

Contributing to our success was our approach to resource management. Assessing roles and responsibilities from the Board downwards improved communication, teamwork, and efficiency.

Investment in a new 3D printer has seen Albert Jagger’s Additive Manufacturing (AM) capacity increase to keep up with customer demand. Embracing new technologies, this investment has increased the number of 3D printed prototypes in-house, reducing risk of errors and rework and speeding up decision making.

The ProJet 460 Plus creates strong, realistic prototypes with advanced 3-channel CMY full-colour printing through binder jetting. Up to 10x faster, the ProJet 460 Plus delivers prototypes in minimal time thanks to advanced ColorJet Printing (CJP) technology. Featuring efficient material use, unused core material can be recycled to eliminate waste.

Albert Jagger have recently completed the successful integration of Safe Assist, a trailer ramp system, on a beavertail vehicle at MIS Conversions, a leading fleet conversion specialist in the UK.

One of the vehicle types they excel in converting, is the Beavertail vehicle. Finding applications in multiple industries, Beavertails are versatile with their unique design allowing for easy loading and unloading of vehicles and equipment.

Operating the rear platform loading ramp is essential to the functionality of the vehicle but poses difficulties due to weight and physical strain required to open and close them. To address these challenges and improve the efficiency and safety of the vehicle, MIS sought an innovative solution from Albert Jagger.

Reduced Weight – Uniformed weight distribution eliminates the physical strain of opening and closing ramp doors, making them easier to raise and lower, enhancing stability.

Corrosion Resistance – Utilising an aluminium exterior ensures corrosion resistance, extending the systems lifespan.
